    UAR stamps

    Hi.
Does anybody know how to arrange stamps from the United Arab Emirates before they became the UAR? I have stamps on that say Dubai, Sharjah, etc. I presume they would go under Dubai, Sharjah, etc.
Or are these stamps actually from the UAR - do they still issue different stamps for each emirate?

    Thanks

    Halo jbennett,

You can put the Dubai stamps under the British Postal Agencies in Eastern Arabia area. You can arrange the Sharjah stamps under Sharjah Area, bcos Sharjah issue its own stamps on year 1963 until the year 1972............just my opinion, hope can help.

    Thank you Pui.

I stupidly listed this topic as "UAR stamps", when I meant "UAE". I hope I haven't confused anyone!

Does anyone else have any other ideas?

    Thanks

    Re: UAR stamps

Hi again. I've had a look at my stamps again and see that I have stamps marked "Sharjah and Dependencies (Trucial States)", and the definitive stamps from "Manama" and "Ajman". I also have commemorative stamps from "Dubai" and "Fujeira" - how exactly do I classify these? Anybody know?

    Hi,

These Countries continuously group or disgroupe and change names. Best is to collect under that name given on the stamp and then get some Catalogues in which they appear to get to know how to sort.

It may not be easy due to the language, but if you apply yourself systematically you will make headway.

I haven't touched my collection since 1975 (start of college and family life). I was curious and got the Scotts Catalogues to get an idea of how much the prices/values have changed. The countries in the Arab world have changed names since 1975 and I am having problems finding them in the catalogues, specifically, Fujeria (now its UAE), Ras Al Khaima (UAE), South Arabia (People's Rep of South Yemen). I can't find them in the catalogue by the old OR new name. Any ideas/help would be appreciated. BTW, the price in the catalogues for what I have found has increased by about 1000% in the 35 yrs!!!!!! Amazing!
