    weird colour error

    Hello everybody

Recently I registered on this awesome site as I started to organise my dad's (passed away some time ago) stamps
collection. Today I found a stamp with a weird colour error and I'd like some advice/expertise on that. It seems that
Red dye smeared while printing that colour took place.

I scanned the error along a good stamp aside, but the file is somehow large (>3 Mb) as I scanned at 2400 dpi so i scaled
it down. The right image is the same stamp with correct colours.

Forgery is out of question as the stamp was in an envelope with at least 8 copies of the series containing this stamp,
as my dad was ordering 2x2 +1 blocks on a regular basis. Very confident he didn't see this.

If someone can help me with an advice/oppinion/expertise i'd be much obliged

    Thanks in advance.

    Thank you.

There seems to be a few more details that I can see on the left Stamp, a large yellow spot under the right arm, Hair on the left side short. Could you scan the whole stamp and post it. This looks like a good one.

    Dear sir,

First of all thank you very much for the quick reply.

Scanned the whole stamp as required, selected 1200dpi but
seems it had been scaled down at upload.
Under my oppinion, it seems that at magenta printing, a droplet was
smeared going from the left arm to the right hip, leaving only
Yellow and Cyan, thus the yellowish spot on the arm.

    Thanks for your interest,
    Teo

Hello Teo2005, Most lilely an accidenal print (flaw). If you will also notice that the colour of the bellybotton is blue and the
lines under the same are also missing. I would see it like you a smear of the red colour. But most keepable to add to your collection, some collectors would pay a nice sum for a piece like this. I could imagine that it was printed in phases and the red being added last.

    Best wishes

Thank you for your help, at the moment I'll keep it and try to obtain a writen expertise to
certificate it is genuine and untampered, and later upon circumstances i might consider
    selling

    Hi Teo,

I am colour blind and so I will not comment on the individual colours.

But I have some stamps with a colour that ran into the margin after I soaked the paper off.

So I would suggest there are 2 possible answers,
A - the colours ran on soaking or the stamped was marked by a fluid during posting. Therefore it is not an error.
B - It is a printing error. As the stamp is dated 1971 and the stamp has a margin, it should be possible to identify the stamp position in the sheet. Once you have the exact details, you can use catalog / expert opinion to see if the printing was flawed. If so, then you have a valuable stamp.

    Best of luck
Enjoy the collecting and your collection

    Yours Faithfully
